Waffle Ice Cream Cone Recipe

I scream, You scream, We all scream for Ice- Cream!!

My mum would say this every time we had ice-cream. I remember when ice cream came in cardboard boxes and I would ride madly home from the local deli before it melted. It was always Neapolitan flavoured.

You can’t beat a waffle cone. The waffle makers can be cheaply purchased from K-Mart or electrical stores.

Waffle Ice Cream Cone Recipe

Kathy from Garter Blue
Simple recipe that only includes 5 ingredients to make waffle ice cream cones. Can be easily doubled.
** CAUTION waffles are very hot to touch when cooked and must be rolled immediately as they are taken off the waffle maker to obtain the cone shape. Use a t-towel to prevent burning of your fingers whilst rolling the cones.

Equipment

  • 1 x Med bowl for mixing
  • 1 x small bowl or saucepan for melting butter
  • 1 x Whisk
  • 1 x Tablespoon
  • 1 x set of scales (grams)
  • Waffle cone maker
  • 1 x T-towel for rolling up the cones
  • 1 x Spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 part egg
  • 1 part butter melted
  • 1 part "00" flour (fine pasta flour)
  • 1 part castor sugar
  • 1 Tspn vanilla essence

Instructions

  • Seperate the egg white from the egg yolk. Save & use the egg yolk in another recipe.
    Weigh the egg white.
Then weigh all the ingredients to equal the weight of the egg white. i.e. if the egg white weighs 40g, then the butter, flour & sugar are weighed at 40 g each.
  • Melt butter in the microwave for approx. 20 sec. or in the saucepan on top of the stove until just melted. Allow butter to slightly cool before adding to remaining ingredients.
  • Whisk the sugar & egg white together. Add flour, vanilla & melted butter and mix until combined.
  • Heat the waffle cone maker to Med temp. Use a pastry brush to brush a small amount of melted butter over the waffle maker plates.
    Ice Cream recipe & cones
  • Spoon 1 TBlspn of the mixture to the middle of the hot waffle maker. Press shut the lid of the waffle maker.
    Ice Cream recipe & cones
  • Use a spatula to remove the waffle cone from the maker.
  • ** CAUTION waffles are very hot to touch when cooked and must be rolled immediately as they are taken off the waffle maker to obtain the cone shape. Use a t-towel to prevent burning of your fingers whilst rolling the cones.
  • Have a t-towel ready on a plate next to the waffle maker.
Use the cloth to quickly help lift and roll the waffle cone into shape, ensuring the end is tucked in tight. Hold the cone a few seconds to set its shape then place the rolled cone into a cup. Stack the next cone into the previous, to assist with maintaining its shape.
  • If you cook the batter using a frypan, add a TBlspn of milk to aid with moving the batter into a circle shape with the back of spoon, in a hot buttered pan.
